PAHS Model United Nations Seeking Donations
For the first time ever, Phoenixville Area High School is sending a group of 20 students to Washington D.C. to participate in the Model United Nations. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts in the district, they are forced to fund the trip themselves. This is where you come in. Through the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation, they are hoping to raise $10,000 by the end of February.
At Phoenixville Area High School, the 20 members of the Model United Nations have formed a dream together. Through rigorous study and prodigious preparation, we have prepared ourselves to attend the annual Model United Nations Conference at George Washington University in Washington, DC.
We are a group of devoted and passionate high school students that unite through our love of politics and international affairs but, despite our dedication, we have hit an obstacle. A lack of funding stands in our way. The conference costs are substantial and, due to recent budget cuts, our school is unable to fund our trip. We are seeking monetary donations. Our fundraising goal is to raise $10,000 by February 29, 2011 in order to meet the national registration deadline.
PAHS Branch Model United Nations has become a sponsored club of the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation (PCEF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations will be accepted by PCEF on our behalf, allowing your contribution to be tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by the law. Checks should be written to PCEF/Model United Nations, and mailed to 1200 Gay Street Phoenixville, PA 19460.

Kiwanis Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction to be held February 4th
The Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville will hold a spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Kimberton Fire Company. The event is being held by the Kiwanis Club in partnership with the Firebird Children’s Theater which provides theater opportunities to children of the area. A spaghetti dinner, provided by Franco’s Italian Restorante, will be served from 5:30 to 7 PM with the auction beginning at 7 PM. Hundreds of items will be up for bid in the silent auction with several special items offered in a live auction.
Over the years, the Kiwanis Club has partnered with various community groups to support their programs. This year’s dinner/auction will aid the Firebird Children’s Theater in extending the theater experience to more children in our community and will also support Kiwanis Club projects to benefit children. Past dinner/auctions have raised almost $90,000 and have helped furnish a children’s medical examination room at The Clinic, helped fund the summer reading program of the Phoenixville Library and build a new playground for Barkley Elementary School. Recent dinner/auctions have provided scholarships to the summer camp program of the Community That Cares organization and helped build playgrounds at Franklin Commons for Stepping Stones and Phoenixville Children’s Learning Center.
Tickets to the dinner/auction are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. It is strongly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as total ticket sales are limited to 400 persons. Tickets may be purchased through the Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville (610-933-9575) or the Firebird Children’s Theater (610-324-8425) or from members of both organizations.
